A few months ago I threw a baby shower for my bestie from college. If you’re anything like me, when I throw a party I want it to be fun and memorable. As I was thinking of cute decorating ideas, I really had it stuck in my mind that I wanted to do a state cup party favor with a heart over Florence, SC (where the parents-to-be live). I immediately thought, “I’ll just get vinyl state stickers and then paint a heart on top of that.” Well….vinyl stickers were going to cost around $4 each and that was with my discount:( That’s when I turned to my old friend, chalk board paint. Here are my steps for recreating a vinyl sticker for less:
Step 1: Tape paper state to cup
Step 2: Paint outline of chalkboard paint around the paper state cutout
Step 3: Pull off the paper state cutout and free hand where the tape was holding the paper onto the cup (Don’t worry if this is not perfect, you can perfect it later)
Step 4: Paint the inside of the state and let dry
Step 5: After the first coat is dry, repeat step 4 two to three times & let dry
Step 6: After the paint is dry, paint a heart over the city/county area you want to highlight
Step 7: Display how you like (I changed the heart from white to red from the tutorial to the party)
When I broke down the costs of everything I had to buy to create these and then divided it by each cup I made, it came out to $1.09 each cup.
I hope this inspires you to recreate something yourself!
